Report on Outreach Open Days by Protego at Fountainhead School Introduction:
I recently had the privilege of attending the Outreach Open Days organized by Protego at Fountainhead School.
This two-day training session was an enriching experience, showcasing innovative teaching practices and the concept of experiential learning.
The event highlighted the school’s progressive approach, where students are given the freedom to choose their subjects, promoting a learning environment distinct from traditional education systems.
The first day began with an engaging activity centered around ice cream making. This hands-on activity was designed to help us understand endothermic and exothermic reactions, as well as the concept of salt lowering the freezing temperature. This practical approach to teaching complex scientific concepts was truly inspiring.
We were introduced to various innovative teaching practices that emphasized student interaction and engagement.
The focus was on making learning relevant and enjoyable, encouraging teachers to interact with students and foster curiosity.
Observations and Interactions: During the visit, we had the opportunity to observe ongoing classes and explore the school’s unique facilities. The classroom environment was dynamic, with students using Chromebooks instead of traditional textbooks. The emphasis was clearly on experiential learning, with a well-equipped science and interdisciplinary subjects center, including a robotics lab.
Student-Led School Tour: A highlight of the visit was the school tour led by Fountainhead students themselves. Their confidence and knowledge about the school’s facilities and ethos were impressive, reflecting the school’s commitment to student empowerment.
Exploration and Learning: We also explored the library, which was rich with resources, and participated in a book review session on “Reimagining Indian Education” by the school’s founder, Vardan Kabra. This book critiques the current Indian education system’s heavy focus on exams and advocates for a more holistic and student-centered approach.
