SPACE Surat in collaboration with P.P.SAVANI CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL organized a SPACE Explorers Workshop, “HYDROROCKETRY” for the students of classes 6 to 9.
SPACE Explorers Workshops offer hands-on learning opportunities in the field of Astronomy and Space Sciences for schools. The participants are called ‘Space Explorers’ as they are encouraged to ask questions, instigate curiosity and explore the Universe.
The ‘Learning by doing’ methodology allows participants to experiment with trial and error, and understand the potential gaps between theory and practice.
The workshop aims to make students aware of astronomy, its presence, and its relevance in our day-to-day life. The workshops are activities based on the following categories:
Observational Astronomy
Activities and Models Making
Interaction and Multimedia
SPACE Explorers Workshop is a collection of one-day programs which give students a remarkable opportunity to participate, interact and experiment to find answers behind the mysteries of the universe.
It focuses on teaching Space Science and Astronomy to students through practical hands-on experience, which helps them develop their knowledge base as well as life skills.
The whole philosophy of the workshop is
I do – I understand
Science is a tool I have
HYDROROCKETRY
Hydrorocketry workshop introduced students to the world of rockets. There are so many vehicles available to travel on earth but when we want to go into space, we have only one option which is Rocket. Students learned that why a rocket is the only vehicle to travel in
space. They learned why different parts of the rocket have a particular shape. Newton’s 3 laws of motion governs the flight of the rocket. We explained about law of inertia, law of momentum and action reaction principle and application of these laws in rocket. They had
fun during the rocket launching competition.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Students learned about space and rockets.
Students learned Newton’s 3 laws of motion and its application in rocketry.
Students understood different parts of rockets and their functions.
Students learned about the center of mass and center of pressure.
They learned the construction of hydro rockets and the process to launch them.
Students learned about the role of water and air pressure in flying the hydro rockets.
Students learned about the launcher and its parts.
