INTER-HOUSE DEBATE COMPETITION

Greetings!
We are pleased to announce the Inter-House Debate Competition as part of our CCA activities. The competition aims to provide students with a platform to develop critical thinking, logical reasoning, confident communication and respectful academic discourse.
Competition Details
Competition: Inter-House Debate Competition
Eligibility: Grades VI–XII
Format: House-wise competition
Participants: Four speakers from each House
Judges: Two judges for each group
Categories & Venues

Competition Format
The competition will be conducted in two rounds:
Round 1 – Semi-Finals
- The four Houses in each group will be divided into two pairs.
- Each pair will debate on an allotted motion.
- The winner of each pair will qualify for the Final.
- The side of the motion (For/Against) will be allotted by the organisers.
Round 2 – Final
- The two winners of the Semi-Finals will compete against each other.
- The House securing the higher total score will be declared the Group Debate Champion.
Topics
Grades 6 & 7
- Semi-Final 1: Does technology encourage creativity or limits it?
- Semi-Final 2: Is winning more important than taking part in sports?
Grades 8 & 9
- Semi-Final 1: Has social media made people less critical in thinking?
- Semi-Final 2: Should compulsory military service be introduced for young people?
Grades 10–12
- Semi-Final 1: Should government impose a carbon tax on environmentally harmful food production
- Semi-Final 2: Should countries be prohibited from selling weapons to nations involved in active conflicts?t
Rules & Regulations
- Each House must be represented by four speakers, and all four speakers must participate.
- The motion and the side of the motion (For/Against) will be allotted by the organisers.
- Participants must speak only on the given motion and present relevant, logical and well-supported arguments.
- Students may use facts, statistics, examples and real-life situations to support their arguments.
- Speakers must listen respectfully to the opposing team. Personal comments, insults or offensive language are strictly prohibited.
- Participants must demonstrate understanding, reasoning and critical thinking rather than simply memorising a speech.
- Participants must strictly adhere to the allotted speaking time.
- Use of mobile phones or electronic devices during the debate is not permitted unless specifically allowed by the organisers.
- All participants are expected to maintain proper decorum and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
- The decision of the judges will be final and binding.

Each performance will be evaluated independently by two judges. The combined scores of both judges will determine the winner of each round.
This competition is an excellent opportunity for students to think independently, analyse different perspectives, articulate their ideas confidently and engage in respectful debate.
We encourage all students to participate enthusiastically and make this competition a celebration of ideas, reasoning and effective communication.
